Only Casey Kasem's Wife Knows Where He Is, and She's Not Telling

Casey KasemThe sad and weird story of radio icon Casey Kasem just keeps getting sadder and weirder. Last year his family situation made headlines when his children accused his second wife, Jean Kasem, of refusing to allow them any contact with their dad -- who by the way, is 82 and has Parkinson's -- and today news broke that Kasem is missing.

Kasem, who can no longer speak and is fed through a tube, has apparently been removed from Los Angeles without his children's knowledge. As for his specific whereabouts, his wife's lawyer said only, "I have no idea where he is."

In other words, Kasem's wife has escalated this feud to the point of hiding a critically ill man from his family.

In court yesterday, Kasem's wife's attorney said that while he didn't know where the radio personality was, Kasem was "no longer in the United States." He stated that Jean Kasem had every right to move her husband as she saw fit, but Superior Court Judge Daniel S. Murphy rejected the argument. Murphy ordered a doctor to look into the Kasem's health, and named his daughter Kerri Kasem as her father's temporary conservator.

On the she-said/she-said front, here's what Kerri Kasem posted on Facebook yesterday:

I believe my father's wife fled the country (or possibly went to an Indian Reservation) with my Dad because she knew I would win in court today. The judge ordered Adult Protective Services, the PVP [Probate Volunteer Panel] Attorney and the police to look for him. Please pray that he is safe.

And here are Jean Kasem's statements from last November:

These children falsely claim that their stepmother is wicked and is keeping her husband prisoner in his home behind closed doors and that they no longer have access to him through no fault of their own. For reasons they know all too well, their presence at this stage would be toxic and extremely distressing for Casey, Jean and their daughter, Liberty, who have had enough of their cruelty.

I have no idea what's really going on behind the scenes with this family, but it's hard not to believe money's involved in some really icky way. Whatever the cause for all this bad blood, it seems deranged to move such a feeble, ailing man out of the country, if that's in fact what happened. There are of course two sides to every story, but it's just beyond tragic that he's being used as a pawn in this ongoing battle. Casey Kasem definitely doesn't deserve to spend his final days in an unfamiliar location while his family dukes it out in court.

What's your reaction to this news? Do you think Kasem's wife had the right to move him without his children's knowledge?
