James Franco Blames YOU for His Naked Selfie

james francoLast week, James Franco posted a naked selfie on Instagram, but then quickly removed it. After the debacle of Franco hitting on a 17-year-old girl on the same social media platform, I thought for sure Franco would cool it for a bit, but much to our delight he did not.

Because he's James Franco, he was back on a talk show -- this time David Letterman -- explaining his actions with a slightly yet bizarrely shy demeanor. And he blames you. Yes, YOU, for his naked selfie.

Oh James. I like you more and more each passing day. He told Letterman things like It's a fun thing. I don't put a ton of thought into but it gets a lot of attention. And when David showed the James' naked selfie to the audience, they erupted in laughter followed by clapping.

Not sure what that does to a man's manhood, but Franco called the photo "awful." It's hardly awful. A little nutty (without actually showing the nuts), but not awful. In fact, the more I think about it, the more I like that this guy -- a celebrity -- is sort of choosing to be oblivious to his fame and do whatever the heck he pleases on his Instagram. You'd never catch Brad Pitt doing this. Or Clooney. Or Affleck. Or even Robert Pattinson. They are all too private to share anything good. But Franco, oh yes, yes indeed. Which is why we should love him more. Franco added to his explanation on why he shares such shocking photos:

Like that Britney Spears shaved head moment, where it's sort of like, 'All right, you want me? Here you can have me, but I am going to be really ugly.' You know what I mean?

I know what he means, but ugly is not part of it. So he blames us. You. His fans. Those of us who read things and look at things that are all about James Franco. He's giving us a piece of himself. So I suppose we have to thank him. As he says, he didn't ask us to look at it, but we did. So he gave us what we wanted, which was a peek into the life of all that is Franco.

What do you think of Franco's explanation? Do you find it refreshing that he's not some overly private celebrity?
