Jodie Foster Marries Alexandra Hedison -- Surprise!

jodie foster marriedHollywood pulled a fast one on us yet again! Surprise, everyone: Jodie Foster is married! Raise your hand if you knew she was even engaged?

A rep confirmed today that Foster married her girlfriend, actress/photographer Alexandra Hedison, over the weekend after about a year of dating.

Hedison was previously linked to Ellen DeGeneres, while Foster, 51, recently split from her partner of 20 years. Now Hedison is stepmom to Charlie, 14, and Kit, 11, who are Foster's children from her relationship with Cydney Bernard, which ended in 2008.

Foster has been well known for keeping out of the Hollywood limelight, so it's no surprise that she kept the engagement and wedding entirely hush-hush. For the first time last year, she openly addressed her sexuality during her emotional Golden Globes lifetime achievement acceptance speech:

I did my coming out a thousand years ago back in the stone age, in those quaint days when a fragile young girl would open up to trusted friends and family and co-workers and then gradually, proudly to everyone who knew her, to everyone she actually met. But now I’m told, apparently, that every celebrity is expected to honor the details of their private life ... But seriously, if you had been a public figure from the time that you were a toddler, if you’d had to fight for a life that felt real and honest and normal against all odds, then maybe you too might value privacy above all else.

Granted, she's been in the limelight practically since she started walking. First a television actress, then a respected child actress (did you know she was nominated for her first Academy Award at age 14?!), and now she's an amazing two-time Oscar winner. Major kudos there.

So congratulations, Jodie. You've definitely got that privacy thing down and clearly succeeded in fooling us about the wedding. But might we get just one teeny-tiny photo? Pretty please?

Are you surprised by Foster's weekend wedding?
