'Bachelor' Contestant Says We've Got Juan Pablo All Wrong

renee oteri bachelor juan pabloAs Juan Pablo Galavis' rep continues to spiral downward in the wake of his homophobic remarks and chauvinistic behavior, at least one woman has come out in support of the current Bachelor: Renee Oteri, the single mom from Sarasota, who is probably the most down-to-earth, genuine contender of the bunch.

Renee told reporters yesterday that Juan Pablo is "a class act," going on to note, "I feel bad for the criticism." Hmm, why is that? Come on, Renee, is he really not as "corny, homophobic, manipulative, creepy, rude, boring, and not as attractive" (as The Daily Beast hilariously put it this week) as we've begun to think he is?

She elaborated:

I definitely know him and obviously people are going to write things and say things that may or may not be true, but I mean honestly, you do get to know each other really, really well and I still feel the same about him now that I did the moment I met him. I have nothing negative to say. ... He's super calming, he's super funny. He's a great guy. Getting to know him, I had no idea he was so funny. He's hilarious.

Some may wonder if this high praise means Renee's actually the one engaged to JPG?! Regardless, I'm still surprised by her defense. I actually believe she is an incredibly genuine, sweet, grounded person, and for that reason, I am more apt to buy her take on him.

But maybe her positive words for the single dad don't necessarily mean it's time to crown him a reality show Prince Charming either. Maybe they're just proof that this isn't a black and white situation. Her support of JPG only serves to put things in perspective that he's neither a misogynistic monster nor perfect husband material. He's just a normal, flawed guy who ABC put on a pedestal and re-named a whole month after

Still, even if he isn't a total jackass, I kinda hope Renee isn't his future wife, because she can definitely do better!

What do you think about Renee's defense of JuanPabs?
