Lea Michele's Confession About Cory Monteith Explains Her Big Career Move

lea michele teen vogue coverIn the wake of boyfriend Cory Monteith's tragic passing, Lea Michele has been gracious for all the support, but not exactly an open book. (Who could blame her?) But now, in a recent interview for Teen Vogue's March issue, the Glee star is opening up more than ever, most likely because her interviewer happened to be her BFF Jonathan Groff! Lea even discussed how what might be the darkest time in her life has had a surprising silver lining ...

It's because of the connection Lea felt with Cory -- and still does -- that she says she's felt brave enough to begin a new chapter of her professional life as a pop singer.

Lea told Teen Vogue:

I somehow feel the insane love Cory and I had for each other morphed into this strength that I have right now. There's just something about knowing he's watching everything I'm doing and feeling like I have to do everything now not just for me but for him. I also have a safety net below me -- if I fall or if it's too much, my friends and family will be there to catch me.

Aww. So heartbreaking ... but at the same time, it is heartening to know that she's been able to see the light. And carry Cory's memory on in such an empowering way. Lea also went on to explain how he motivated her to take the next step in her career ...

During Glee, I felt like I was scratching that itch of being an artist. I was at a great place in my life and I was so unbelievably happy -- my relationship with Cory made me feel like I could reach for the stars and more. So I was like, 'I'm going to challenge myself and do this record now.'

When it came time to get to work, Cory was also apparently her biggest fan and critic. Lea explains:

He heard every song and gave me notes on everything. He loved 'Battlefield.' I'm getting chills thinking about it. I would say 'Burn With You' was his favorite. He came into the studio that day.

As terribly sad as it is that those good times with her love are behind her, it's memories like those that will keep Lea not just powering through, but moving forward in the healthiest, strongest possible way.

Do you feel Lea's remarks are reassuring to hear?
