‘Silver Linings Playbook’ Was Set to Star This Polarizing Actress Instead of Jennifer Lawrence

silver linings playbookIf you ever saw Silver Linings Playbook, which you probably should have, as it was a pretty good movie, there's no doubt that one of the best aspects of the flick was the performances by Bradley Cooper, Jennifer Lawrence, and Robert De Niro. Everything just seemed to click, and Jennifer Lawrence walked away with an Oscar because of it.

But oh the fickle beast that is Hollywood. It all might not have been -- or at least it would have been a hell of a lot different.

Reports have surfaced that Anne Hathaway was initially set to star in SLP. It's safe to say that Anne is as polarizing (her speeches are hilariously awkward) as JLaw is beloved. Is your mind completely blown??? It should be because there certainly isn't anything else more important to be thinking about today!

Harvey Weinstein, the Weinstein Company co-chairman, told Howard Stern that Anne left because she wasn't seeing eye-to-eye (AKA "creative differences") with David O'Russell, the director.

"Anne wasn't doing it," Weinstein explained. "And she's marvelous and wonderful and she was my choice, I love her."

"I'll bet she's kicking herself in the head," Stern said.

"Well, whatever, I don't think so," Weinstein responded. "She went on to win the Academy Award for Les Miserables. Maybe we're kicking ourselves in the head."

Two roles in which it's difficult to picture either beautiful woman not performing. And they both won Oscars, so it seems all is right in Hollywood Land. Thank goodness. You can emerge from your fallout shelters now.

And of course, those behind Silver Linings Playbook quickly came to see how Jennifer was the right one for the part after this crisis. "The minute we saw Jennifer Lawrence's tape ... because I said, how the hell are we going to replace Annie? And then this amazing creature walked in who's a brilliant actress and so much fun and she won the Oscar," Weinstein said.

He also mentioned that Mark Walhberg was originally considered for Bradley Cooper's role! Don't ask me why, but I certainly don't see Anne and Mark having the same rapport as Jennifer and Brad.

When news like this comes out for any successful blockbuster movie, you gotta wonder if it would have enjoyed the same accolades had the casting been this mixed up. Would Anne have been able to have the same kind of chemistry and tension with Bradley? What would she have done differently (clearly she didn't share the director's point of view)? Since so many people have jumped on the JLaw train, would the film have garnered nearly as much attention? Of course, Anne is a wonderful, skilled actress, but not everyone likes her. Alas, questions for the vapid and those who don't have more important shit to think about (like me!), but, come on, it's kind of interesting to find out the behind-the-scenes stuff when it comes to makin' movie magic.

And had Jennifer not replaced Anne, we would never have gotten this amazing moment in time:

Oh. What could have been. Thank goodness it panned out the way it did. Now we can all get a peaceful night's sleep tonight.

Could you imagine Anne Hathaway as Tiffany in Silver Linings Playbook?
