Charlize Theron Makes Tough Guy Sean Penn Get Rid of All His Guns

Charlize Theron is making quite an impression on her new man, Sean Penn. She may have a mom haircut now thanks to Sean, but his change has been even bigger. He says he got rid of his entire collection of guns, about 65 of them, thanks to "a strong woman who happens to be from South Africa." Charlize just happens to be from South Africa. No doubt guns aren't Charlize's favorite thing, having seen her mom shoot and kill her father after he fired his gun into his daughter's bedroom one night after a night of drinking.

We always knew that Sean was a tough guy -- remember how he showed up in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina waving a gun around? (Reportedly, this was not one of the 65.) Oh, and there's that time he allegedly shot at paparazzi buzzing over his wedding to Maddona.

But now he calls his ex guns "cowardly killing machines."

At his Haiti benefit, which raised over $6 million for Sean's favorite cause, he said:

Being provoked by this aforementioned strong woman and considering how liberating of bulls--t and ugliness it would be not only get rid of the guns I have in the continental United States but also to destroy them, [artist] Jeff Koons and I had a chat the other day. The highest bidder gets every single one of my guns put in the hands of this iconic artist and sculptor ... Koons will decommission [and] render inactive all of my cowardly killing machines.

Anderson Cooper outbid Piers Morgan for the honor of having Sean's guns hanging on his wall. Sean decided to make art, not war.

Well, ladies, it's difficult if not impossible to change a man, but Charlize approached the topic at the right time -- at the beginning of the relationship. Because if he's not going to do it then, he never will. Smart woman, that Charlize.

But you have to wonder if Sean might start slipping out to the gun store in the middle of night, buying up heat when Charlize is out of town, and packing them away in his attic. Something like that.

If Robin Wright ever prodded Sean to get rid of his guns, she's probably seething right about now.

Have you ever tried to get a man to get rid of a collection of anything?
