Kate Middleton's Birthday Plans Just Took an Unexpected Turn

kate middletonLooks like all the hoopla about Kate Middleton's 32nd birthday, which was technically today, may have been a bit premature! Vanity Fair's "Royal Watch" column has the scoop on the Duchess of Cambridge's real birthday plans, and they're not actually going down until ... this weekend! With Prince William beginning his land-management course at the University of Cambridge today, it only made sense that the couple would postpone celebration.

And even then, it sounds like this year is going to be decidedly lower-key than the already typically relaxed affair Kate prefers.

Seems like she enjoys spending time with loved ones -- or just Wills -- more than anything. The royal couple has celebrated past birthdays with getaways. For instance, in 2009, William surprised then-girlfriend Kate with a romantic candle-lit supper in a remote log cabin on the royal Balmoral estate in Scotland. But she's also been perfectly content to spend birthdays with informal gatherings at the Middleton family home.

According to VF's mole, “There won’t be a big party—Kate’s not one for big celebrations. We expect a small family affair at the weekend instead." They note that this year's relaxed festivities will most likely take place at the Middleton's new manor house in Bucklebury, where Kate and William lived with Prince George soon after his birth. Sounds absolutely lovely!

Not to mention perfect for her first birthday as a mom. She may not be able to get away this year, but she still deserves to enjoy herself. And this way, Prince George can definitely get in on all the fun. And pfft, as far as having to delay by a couple days, it's okay! It's just an excuse to drag out the birthday fun for out as long as possible. Something I'm sure even "low-key" Kate can't resist.

How do Kate's real birthday plans sound to you? Do you prefer a low-key or big birthday celebration?
