Charlie Hunnam & Dakota Johnson's Sexy Chemistry Is Only an Act

charlie hunnamEver since we learned Charlie Hunnam and Dakota Johnson will be portraying Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele in next summer's Fifty Shades of Grey movie, fans have been buzzing about how the co-stars could easily end up being just like Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart. In that they weren't fans' first choices to portray the lead roles, but also in that, inevitably, their steamy on-screen romance will bleed into real life. No matter that they each have their respective significant others! So did KStew and RPatz at one time, right?

Perhaps, but they also weren't, well, fully-formed adults. Kristen was still a teen, Rob in his early 20s. Charlie may have already touted his chemistry with Dakota, but new proof has me highly doubting 33-year-old Charlie's going to throw in the towel on his over 7-year relationship with girlfriend Morgana McNelis for his new co-star ...

Finally able to acknowledge his big new gig, Charlie opened up to The Guardian about his relationship:

Of course, it's difficult being with an actor, you know? [Morgana] is required to share certain parts of me with the world that she wouldn't necessarily choose to do, but we have a great relationship, and she loves me and wants to be with me and we've been together a long time now, and I think she understands and has come to terms with the fact that there are certain elements of me that she is going to have to share. This is an extreme example of that, but thankfully we do have seven and a half years of history together, so it won't be a big problem.

Alright, so I guess you could read this two ways -- defensive or very assured. I'd prefer to go with the latter. I feel like Charlie's trying to nip this thing in the bud right here right now, setting a precedent by making it clear we ought not expect an off-screen romance with Dakota to bloom EVER, because he's all set in the love department.

'Course it's not ideal that Morgana's going to have to "share" him in the physical sense for the duration of at least one film shoot (with the possibility of two others!), but they've got "seven and a half years of history" and "a great relationship," so no biggie! How could anyone -- even the Ana to his Christian -- possibly compete with that?

Some fans may find it disappointing that Charlie and Dakota don't stand a chance, but not me. They don't have to be a couple on-screen and off for the chemistry to spark on-screen. Still, when they do, I'm sure they'll have an even tougher time killing rumors about a real-life romance brewing. But hey, they knew what they signed up for ...

Be honest: Would you be more psyched about the Fifty Shades flick if you knew there was a possibility of Dakota and Charlie getting together off-screen? Do you think there is a chance?
