Lindsay Lohan's New Reality Show May Be the Smartest Decision Oprah Ever Made

lindsay lohanEverybody's all flipping out about what a bad decision Lindsay Lohan is making by caving at last and deciding that, yes, okay, FINE, she WILL do a reality show ... for Oprah Winfrey's OWN network. Okay, first of all, I think it's safe to say that collaborating with Oprah Winfrey has never, historically, been a bad business and/or personal decision for any human being ever (with the possible exception of James Frey, but that was different, sort of).

So clearly this idea -- billed as an "eight-episode docu-series that will 'follow the actress as she works to rebuild her career and stay healthy'" -- is not something Lohan will live to regret. Dina Lohan even believes that Oprah will serve as some sort of mentor to her deeply, um, troubled daughter, saying: "Oh, it's fantastic. If anyone is going to help mentor you, it's going to be Oprah." But did Oprah Winfrey really decide to give Lindsay Lohan her own reality show as some philanthropic career-saving gesture?

Or did the super-savvy TV empire-building powerhouse realize that LiLo could quite possibly save the struggling OWN from being swallowed by its own pit of self-help quicksand?? I gotta say ... I kinda think that's closer to the truth. Not that Oprah isn't way benevolent and stuff -- cause OPRAH HELPS THE PEOPLE, you guys. She really really really does. Because she cares! Why else would she give everybody her favorite things for free?? I love Oprah so much, why won't she send me some free stuff??

Anyway. Whether or not Lindsay Lohan will profit from her own reality show isn't the point. The point is, Oprah will profit, and what's good for Oprah is good for us all.

Do you think Oprah Winfrey is making a good decision by giving Lindsay Lohan her own reality show?
