Lea Michele Releases Statement Addressing Cory Monteith's Devastating Death

lea michele cory monteithIn the wake of Cory Monteith's death, one of the first questions Glee fans around the world wondered was how his co-star-cum-girlfriend Lea Michele is faring upon learning the absolutely heart-wrenching news. Support for the star was apparent, as various reactions on Twitter included the hashtag "#prayforLea," which soon became a trending topic on the site.

As for the Lea's reaction, sources tell Hollywood Life that she's understandably "absolutely hysterical and completely inconsolable” and "devastated." Lea herself has yet to speak out, but the star's reps did release a statement to Entertainment Tonight, which reads:

We ask that everyone kindly respect Lea's privacy during this devastating time.

Ugh. This is just unbelievable ... Judging from the outpouring of love and support for the actress, I would truly hope that everyone heeds this request. However, there's already been buzz that the couple may have split up right before Cory's passing. (And that's allegedly why Lea spent the Fourth of July in Cabo San Lucas with a girlfriend, while Cory was spending time in his native Canada.) While it's a valid question, who knows if there's any truth to that whatsoever. After all, it was only a few months ago, in April that Lea vowed publicly to stand by Cory as he fought his addiction demons in rehab, stating:

I love and support Cory and will stand by him through this. I am grateful and proud he made this decision.

Only time -- and Lea herself -- can tell us what really happened in the days and hours leading up to this tragedy.

At the very least, we can take some heart in knowing that Lea can seek support from her Glee family who is also stunned and grieving at this time ...

Harry Shum, who plays Mike Chang, tweets, "At this time, please send nothing but love and light. This tragic news still doesn't seem real to me. I love you Cory." Dot-Marie Jones, who plays Coach Biest, wrote in all caps, "I have no words! My heart is broken. Cory was not only a hell of a friend, he was one amazing man that I will hold close to my heart forever," while frequent director of the show, Adam Shankman, wrote, "Goodbye my amazing and beautiful friend. The lights in my world just grew dimmer. The world just lost one of our best. I love u so much..."
