Nigella Lawson's Husband Announces That HE'S Divorcing HER

nigella lawsonNigella Lawson's husband, Charles Saatchi, has announced that he's seeking to divorce the famed celebrity chef. A few weeks ago, Saatchi was photographed grabbing Lawson's neck outside of a London restaurant during a heated argument. In the days that followed, a visibly upset Lawson was seen moving out of the $18 million home she shared with the advertising tycoon.

"I am sorry to announce that Nigella Lawson and I are getting divorced," Saatchi told U.K. paper the Daily Mail. "I feel that I have clearly been a disappointment to Nigella during the last year or so, and I am disappointed that she was advised to make no public comment to explain that I abhor violence of any kind against women, and have never abused her physically in any way."

Saatchi said he made the "heartbreaking" decision to formally separate from Lawson because she refused to defend his reputation after he was photographed with his hand around her throat. Oh. Okay.

According to the Mail, the couple was told photos of the argument were going to be released beforehand, yet they thought nothing of it. "It was not unusual for them to argue, particularly in recent months, and so they carried on as normal, making plans for their summer holiday in Europe despite background tensions in their marriage," the Mail wrote. But when they saw just how bad the photos "looked", they started panicking. Charles reportedly wanted to explain that things weren't as bad as they seemed, while Nigella's team wanted Charles to make a statement publicly apologizing for what happened. In his statement to the Mail, Charles even says that Nigella has grabbed his throat on many occasions to get his attention. The fight apparently was about whether or not Nigella's daughter should go to Oxford.

Who knows what went on behind closed doors in this marriage? Maybe Nigella was violent to Charles, as well. We really don't know. But the fact is, Charles was photographed with his hands around Nigella's throat. That's unacceptable any way you slice it. Glad these two are getting divorced, regardless of who initiated it.
