'Game of Thrones' Season 4 Casting News Means We’ll See What Happens to Lysa Arryn

lysa arrynHere's some Game of Thrones season 4 casting news! Because that's exactly what you need to help get you through this dire, ridiculously long mourning phase after the season 3 finale.

Readers of A Storm of Swords won't necessarily be surprised by these returning cast members. According to various sources, four are set to make their return, ones we've seen before but not on season 3. So far, it's Lysa Tully/Arryn (Kate Dickie), Ser Alliser Thorne (Owen Teale), Rorge (Andy Beckwith), and Janos Slynt (Dominic Carter).

Ser Alliser Throne is the master-at-arms responsible for training new recruits of the Night's Watch. Jon Snow doesn't like him much. Rorge is the guy from season 2 kept in a cage with Biter and Jaqen H'ghar. Tyrion schooled Janos Slynt in season 2 and forces him to take the black.

But ohhhh the things to come for Lysa Arryn. There are SPOILERS AHEAD.

So after King Joffrey dies at the Purple Wedding, Sansa is smuggled out of King's Landing by Petyr Baelish and is taken to the Eyrie, where her aunt lives and rules. Lysa proclaims her undying love for Petyr and they hastily get married. Then they proceed to have very, VERY loud sex that the entire castle overhears.

Afterward, though, Petyr is around less and less, but he shows up unexpectedly while Sansa is making a snow structure of Winterfell. As he helps her, he then makes the moves on her and plants a big wet one on her. Sansa refuses him (she's masquerading as his daughter to hide her true identity for crying out loud!) and is very upset by the entire incident.

Suddenly, Sansa is summoned by her aunt. Lysa, mind-blowingly drunk, admits that she saw Sansa and Petyr kissing. She flips out like a crazy, spoiled, jealous tween and whines about how Petyr is heeeeeeers. She also nearly shoves poor Sansa out of the Moon Door (the door opens into the sky and there's a huge drop to the stones in the valley below). Petyr rushes in to stop his wife in the nick of time, and Lysa sobs and admits that she murdered Jon Arryn, her husband, at Petyr's insistence. Petyr holds her and says that he has only ever loved one woman.

Then he says, "Only Cat."

And proceeds to shove Lysa out of the Moon Door.

Her death is blamed on the singer Marillion, and it's one of the most shocking, unexpected moments in A Storm of Swords (and that's saying a lot). It's going to be so exciting to hear what non-book readers say after watching this scene. I'm sure Kate Dickie will do Lysa justice and make it a very much talked about moment in season 4. OMG can't wait!

Were you surprised when Petyr shoved his wife out the Moon Door in A Storm of Swords?
