'DWTS' Lisa Vanderpump Saved by Shocking Twist That Changes Show

Dorothy HamillThe Dancing With the Stars results show is usually a boring recap of the night before followed by filler, filler, some suspense, and more filler. But not tonight. This was supposed to be the first elimination and it looked like it was either going to be Lisa Vanderpump or Victor Ortiz.

But then there was a twist (**Spoilers after the jump).

First we should back up. The second week of competition had some CLEAR front runners. Kellie Pickler is just wow. Blowing me away. I can't remember a star on this show who ever did so well in the second week of competition. Of course, she is not the only one. Both Zendaya and Jacoby Jones are also emerging as my own two favorites to win this season. But someone had to go home tonight and it looked like Lisa or Victor. Until it wasn't.

Tonight, heartbreakingly, it was Dorothy Hamill who, on the advice of her spinal surgeon, dropped out of the competition.

It was a shocker.

Back in the day, there was almost nothing Hamill could not win. A figure skating legend, she won the Gold Medal at the 1976 Winter Games in Innsbruck, Austria at the age of 19. She went on to capture the World Championship title in Gothenburg, Sweden soon after. She has even won an Emmy Award.

For her to give up on week 2 of the competition, she must have been in serious, SERIOUS pain. My heart went out to her. She was clearly struggling with her tears, with letting down her partner, and probably, a little bit, with herself as well. Giving up never comes easy to a true champion, even when she has all the right reasons.

While both Lisa and Victor must have been happy to live another week, I can't imagine they liked the reason.

This is Dancing With the Stars. You never know what you will get from week to week. This was a tear jerker, but the show must go on.

Until next week...  I am guessing Lisa and Victor will hit bottom again.

What is your guess for next week? Were you sad to see Dorothy go?
