‘Fault in Our Stars’ Film Starring Shailene Woodley Will Be the Next Big Thing

Shailene WoodleyHave any of you read The Fault in Our Stars by John Green yet? If you haven't, I suggest you hightail it to your nearest bookstore or download it onto whatever electronic device you read from. Because it's fantastic; it's as hilarious as it is heart-wrenching. The story is about two teens named Gus and Hazel who first meet at a cancer support group and fall in love. I got through the book in two days, it was that good.

So color me stoked when I heard that they were going to make a movie out of the book (considering Hollywood has absolutely no original ideas anymore and pretty much any bestseller will be made into a movie nowadays). News has come out that they have already cast the female lead! Hazel will be played by Shailene Woodley, who was recently offered the part. Exciting stuff, but I just hope that the movie is as wonderful as the book.

“During our exhaustive search to find Hazel Grace Lancaster, I saw some stunning auditions by today’s finest young actresses,” the director, Josh Boone, said. “Over 250 girls read for the part, but it wasn’t until Shailene stepped in front of the camera that I truly saw Hazel for the first time. It was like lightning striking. I can’t wait for the rest of the world to see what I have.”

Sounds like the creators of the movie knew exactly what they were looking for to cast Hazel. It'd probably be quite a role for Shailene to take on, having to deliver witty, cynical, sarcastic one-liners, be in constant pain while carting around an oxygen tank, not exactly looking her best while fighting her cancer (her face gets swollen due to the medication she's on), falling in love for the first time, and dealing with the inevitable grief these poor kids have to face while coming to terms with their diagnoses.

At least the 21-year-old has some great experience already, though. You may recognize Shailene from Secret Life and The Descendants. This could definitely be her breakthrough role, and I hope whatever Boone saw during her audition will pay homage to such an engrossing, funny, original character.

Now for an equally important question: Who's going to play Augustus??

Have you read Fault in Our Stars? What do you think of the casting decision?
