Katy Perry & John Mayer Break Up Again: This Time Should Be for Good

john mayer katy perryI'm just going to rip this Band-Aid right off: Katy Perry and John Mayer have broken up. There, I said it. I'll give you a moment to compose yourself and then we'll reconvene ...

You good? Deep breaths. All right, let's do this. Shortly following the couple's reported "fun-filled" getaway to Mayer's home state of Montana a few weeks ago, John and Katy have been keeping their distance. They apparently are miles away from each other in Los Angeles, but have barely been talking lately. Sources confirmed to Us Weekly that the couple has in fact broken up, saying: "It's sad, [but] it's not over until it's over. You have to see how things play out. She's leaving the window open. They have both been so focused on work."

The ol' "focused on work" excuse. Okay, guys. Sure.

For those of you who need to brush up on Katy and John 101, allow me: The couple began dating last summer shortly after Katy's fling with that random, smokin' male model. Perry and Mayer then broke up in August, and quickly reconciled a month later. After getting back together, they took their relationship from zero to balls-to-the-wall in no time -- John spending the holidays with Katy's family; Katy receiving a huge ring from John. The whole nine. But now? Now they've called it quits again. And it seems like maybe this time should be for good.

When two people get together shortly after a divorce and/or breakup, and then immediately break up a short time after that ... and then again months later (and one's a known womanizer), it's kind of a red flag. They may look good together, what with their dark hair and, um, music-ness(?), but Katy and John ought to go their separate ways.

It may be sad for them in the beginning, but if anyone can rebuild, it's these two crazy kids. Godspeed, young lovers.

Do you think Katy and John should give it another shot?
