Ellen DeGeneres' Supreme Court Letter Makes a Case for Gay Marriage That's Impossible to Argue With

ellen degeneresIt may have been on the radio that I recently heard the DJs talking about how Ellen DeGeneres is amazing and unstoppable. That she could do whatever she set out to. And that includes convincing Americans of just about anything. Let's hope that's the case and that the Supreme Court can be swayed by the powers of Ellen, because the comedian just posted an open letter on her blog, entitled, "Ellen's Brief to the Supreme Court."

It bears noting that despite being out and proud for several years now, Ellen's never been one to get uber-political. Heck, the woman didn't even intend to come out in the big, hairy cover of Time magazine-way that she did -- and she says so in her blog post. But, at the same time, it's apparent that the time has come for her to share how she feels about marriage equality ...

You can check out the entire post here. My fave parts, and the heart of the post that truly drives Ellen's point home and is pretty much guaranteed to make you giggle ...

Portia and I have been married for 4 years and they have been the happiest of my life. And in those 4 years, I don't think we hurt anyone else's marriage. I asked all of my neighbors and they say they're fine. But even though Portia and I got married in the short period of time when it was legal in California, there are 1,138 federal rights for married couples that we don't have, including some that protect married people from losing their homes, or their savings or custody of their children....

I hope the Supreme Court will do the right thing, and let everyone enjoy the same rights. It's going to help keep families together. It's going to make kids feel better about who they are. And it is time.

Yay, Ellen! It is time! And let's face it -- when Ellen flippin' DeGeneres stands up and advocates for something, there shouldn't even be a debate anymore. The woman has such incredible mass appeal for a reason. She speaks the truth. And what she's been awesome enough to stand up and say now is something I just know we know we can and will all get behind. Hopefully sooner rather than later.

How do you feel about Ellen's "brief"?
