The first in a series, it's a sinister tale about high school soul-snatchers and it has all the mystery, drama, and romance that made Twilightt so mesmerizing. I won't give it away, but the ending is totally unexpected and well worth the wait.

  • Beautiful Creatures by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl

Soon to be a major motion picture, it is a haunting and spine tingling read about the world of dark magic. Heroine Lena Duchannes will have you asking, "Bella who?"

  • The Vampire Diaries by L.J. Smith

The hit CW TV series is based on the books, but they are as different as, well, werewolves and vampires. There is so much more depth to the Stefan-Elena-Damon love triangle in these pages. You may be surprised how different  Elena comes off and -- to be honest -- I like the book version of her much better.

  • The Great and Terrible Beauty (The Gemma Doyle Trilogy) by Libba Bray

You'll feel for poor Gemma Doyle immediately. After her mother's suicide, she's moved from India to a prim boarding school in England. Her reception by the students is as chilly as the weather until she becomes apart of clique of mystical girls and her own magical powers are unleashed.

  • Blue Bloods by Melissa De La Cruz

Think of it as Gossip Girl meets Twilight. Something weird is happening to Schuyler Van Alen's body and she doesn't know why. She's never been apart of the in crowd at her elite Manhattan private school, but suddenly the most popular guy starts hanging with her. Things get interesting when one of the cool kids is murdered and they pair try to figure out what happened.

  • Evermore: The Immortals by Alyson Noel

It's tough being 16-years-old, especially for Ever. After losing her family in a tragic accident, she can hear people's thoughts and learn their life story by one touch. She isolates herself from everyone until Damen Auguste comes on the scene and he has a few spooky secrets of his own.

  • Wicked Lovely by Melissa Marr

In this world, faeries aren't those cute, tiny old ladies with wands getting you ready for the ball. No. In this book they are something to be avoided and feared. That's not so easy for Aislinn who has seen them all her life and now one is after her.

  • Denial by Adele Carrington

The first in a series called the Varolac Journals, this urban fantasy follows are 31-year-old woman who is unhappy with her life until she meets a sexy, enigmatic, and rich vampire.

This series is the basis of HBO's bloody, sexy show True Blood and just as titillating.

  • And coming soon ... The Blushing Sky by Michael Putnam

The basic premise is that vampires are not allowed to fall in love, but two end up breaking that rule. Putnam, who has previously penned religious books, says that he has added elements of Christianity into the story. Could be a good read for readers who were intrigued by that aspect of the Twilight books.
