Bradley Cooper Denies Lance Armstrong Role, But He Should Just Come Clean

Bradley CooperHere's a confusing story developing in the movie world: director JJ Abrams is working on a Lance Armstrong biopic, and actor Bradley Cooper is interested in playing the role of the disgraced cyclist. It's totally happening, because Abrams said on Saturday that the two of them have been talking about it over email! Except maybe it's totally not, because Bradley Cooper says he doesn't know anything about it, and the rumors are "So nuts!"

I don't know if Cooper and Abrams forgot to get their stories straight or if one of them is just really confused or what, but here's the bottom line: Bradley Cooper would be AWESOME in this role.

I mean, okay, they don't look exactly alike, but slap a haircut on Cooper and force him to put in some extra gym time and they'd be close enough. I'm not the biggest Bradley Cooper fan, but I've always thought he was far more appealing in his intense/freaky roles as opposed to the goofy rom-com stuff. The bizarre character arc he played in Limitless (not that that was a perfect movie, mind you) makes me think he'd be great at playing Armstrong's meteoric rise and eventual fall from grace.

Plus, with a director like JJ Abrams at the helm, what actor wouldn't jump at the chance of such a high-profile part? The rumors about Cooper being on board seemed totally believable, since just a week ago he expressed interest in playing Armstrong in an interview with the BBC:

I would be interested in that. I think he's fascinating. What a fascinating character.

Weirdly, Cooper now claims he didn't know what he was talking about last week:

I was in Manchester, doing the BBC morning show... I had no idea what [the interviewer] was talking about. I didn’t even know that J.J. [Abrams] has the rights, I had no idea. I don’t know anything about it.

Even MORE weirdly, Abrams himself recently confirmed that he was in talks with Cooper for the role:

[Cooper] sent me an email and we've been talking.

Who knows what's going on -- maybe it's all an elaborate publicity ploy and Cooper will eventually sit down with Oprah for a four-hour special in which he confesses that he had lied all along about being in the Lance Armstrong movie. While the Hollywood players work to get their facts straight, I'm just going to hope that the rumors are true, because I think they'd be a great team. And while I've never thought Cooper was, in fact, the sexiest man alive, I might change my story after seeing him in a cycling uniform or two.

What do you think about the possibility of Bradley Cooper playing Lance Armstrong?
