Kim Kardashian Is Accused of Being a Bad Mother -- Already!

Kim KardashianKim Kardashian is only about three months along in her pregnancy, but already the judgy types are out in full force, saying what a terrible mother she'll make. Of course, she doesn't really help her own cause.

On the last episode of Kourtney and Kim Take Miami, Kim blasted her sister Kourtney for being boring, wearing yoga pants in the afternoon, and being overly devoted to her two kids to the exclusion of everything else. She then thanked god she wasn't a mother. Bad timing, Kim. Baaaad timing. But does every mom have to be the all-hands-on-deck-give-up-everything-else mom that Kourtney is?

By the end of the show, Kim was singing a different tune, and apologized to Kourtney -- explaining that her attitude was based more in her fear that she wouldn't be able to have children. Nice excuse, Kim. Let's face it, these moms can be annoying. Having kids is no reason to give up every semblance of a life.

In fact, I think it's a terrible idea. After you've abandoned all your friends, ignored your husband, given away your pets, stopped working out, and ceased understanding that there's a human race and a world beyond what your kid ate that day or crapped that night, when your kid suddenly desires autonomy, gets friends, and moves out, well, guess what? You're screwed.

So what if Kim continues to "travel the world" when she has a baby? I know moms who do it. They're happy. The baby is happy. I also know moms who, even when the baby is past a year old, won't take a few hours away just to relax, catch up with friends, or have some me-time. Now THAT I will never understand. Putting yourself first sometimes is not a bad thing. It's the responsible thing to do. You can't take care of anyone else until you take care of yourself.

Now, I'm not saying Kim will make the world's greatest mom. In my mind, the fact that she gave away her kitten, Mercy, almost as soon as she got it doesn't bode well. But I've seen other people with a strong selfish streak have kids and become great parents. When a male relative of mine who can't be wrong about anything had his first child, I was worried. I wondered how he was going to deal with a kid talking back to him. But he is a fabulous dad.

So let's not judge Kim so hastily. And that's probably the last time you'll ever hear me say that.

Do you think Kim will make a good mom?
