New Kardashian 'Plus-Size' Clothes Will Make Average Women Feel Fat

Kim & Khloe KardashianWhen I first heard that the Kardashian girls are starting a plus-size clothing line, I was all, "Good for them! It's awesome that they realize that women come in all shapes and sizes and that not everyone is a size zero. Bravo, ladies!"

But then I read a little farther and got to the part about the new line featuring pieces ranging from size 8 to size 16 -- and that's when I started rolling my eyes and scratching my head a bit.

Um, a size 8 is considered a PLUS size? For real? Because last time I checked, I thought a size 8 was, well -- average and healthy? (Am I nuts?)

The Kardashian Kollection for Dorothy Perkins will make its debut in Britain, and of the line's creation, Kim Kardashian said:

I am really glad to be able to promote a healthy, natural body shape, eating well and exercising and appreciating the shape that you naturally have. I was a teenager in the '90s, which was the era of grunge, the waif, and heroin chic. Female models were skeletal, and with my Armenian background that was a mold I was never going to fit.

Ok, so that's all well and good and it sounds really nice -- but I'm still having trouble coming to terms with sizes 8 through 16 being considered "plus" sizes. Maybe I'm just really out of the loop, but I've always considered plus sizes to be much larger than that. And maybe things are really different over in Kate Middleton-land than they are here in the U.S. -- but I certainly wouldn't expect to turn to a plus-size line when shopping for those particular sizes.

Still, I guess you have to give the Kardashians credit for realizing that not all of us can fit into designer sample sizes. But why can't they just deem this new line to be "regular" sized or something like that instead of throwing an unnecessary plus label on there?

Do you think they had the right intentions? And for crying out loud, are sizes 8 to 16 REALLY plus sizes?
