Usher's Puppy Cost $12,000 & Is Worth Every Penny

Usher and puppyNormally when celebrities throw around big bucks for items I know I could score for a fraction of the price, I wince and think about how the money for that bazillion-dollar car/ring/skin cream could be so much better spent elsewhere. But when it comes to singer Usher plopping down $12,000 for a pooch, I say good for him.

First of all, it's perhaps the most adorable dog you've ever seen. It's a Goldendoodle, which is a mix between a Golden Retriever and Poodle, and its little face is one of those that makes you involuntarily squeal.

But what about all those poor puppies in the pound, I bet you're asking. It's true they need homes too, but Usher had a good reason for picking this particular pup.

He bought it at the recent Pencils of Promise gala auction, and the money goes to fund Justin Bieber's organization that builds schools in impoverished countries. So it's for a great cause.

Interestingly enough, last year he also tried to win a puppy at the auction, but a family outbid him. They named the pup Usher, but this year, he was out to win at all costs. According to Us Weekly the singer had to fight hard for the pup too, as Gossip Girl actress Jessica Szohr was vying for her as well, bidding as much as $11,000 before she bowed to Usher. Hopefully her friends and relatives will take note this holiday season, as a little puppy like this under the tree could be a great gift.

After winning the pup, Usher tweeted his name choice for the adorable little girl -- Poppy Raymond. Which is all sorts of perfect ... if his toddler sons -- Usher Raymond V and Naviyd Raymond -- don't override his choice. We can only guess how excited those boys were when daddy brought her home and how much fun they'll have growing up with her.

So while, of course, there are a few naysayers barking that he should have gone to the pound or just bought books himself with that kind of money, I think it was a lovely way to acquire a pet. She may be one of the world's most expensive dogs, but she's worth it.

What do you think of Usher spending $12,000 on this dog?
