Megan Fox's Month-Late Baby News Shows It's Possible to Keep a Secret in Hollywood

Megan FoxI can't tell how I feel about celebrities who steadfastly refuse to confirm their pregnancies, even when they're in, like, their third trimester. On the one hand, it's totally their personal business and they have the right not to answer forty billion stupid questions about how they feel and how fast they plan to lose the baby weight -- on the other hand, it seems like refusing to confirm what's becoming increasingly obvious would only generate more attention.

What I do know is that despite what some A-listers might have us believe about how they have no privacy thanks to the prying tabloids, one star just proved it's possible to fully gestate a child while staying almost completely under the radar. Megan Fox's uber-stealth pregnancy and birth show it's possible for a celeb to keep a secret -- when they want to.

Fox consistently dodged rumors that she was expecting a child with her husband Brian Austin Green. When she was several months along, Green even went so far as to issue a diabolically clever response to the gossip:

They've been saying that every three months ever since we got married, and it's sort of one of those things that they love to say.

It's not a yes, it's not a no. Well played, sir.

The couple never did confirm the pregnancy, although they posed for some weirdly intimate maternity session type photos in June that made it pretty obvious what was up. That's the point where their refusal to talk about it started seeming a little silly, because, well, come on.

Fox's belly was photographed a few more times after that, but overall, it seems like she had the most low-key pregnancy ever. No interviews, no photo spreads, and most intriguingly, they had their baby a full month before they announced it to the world. On October 17, she posted the following on Facebook:

We have been very lucky to have had a peaceful few weeks at home, but I would like to release this myself before others do. I gave birth to our son Noah Shannon Green on September 27th. He is healthy, happy, and perfect.

It seems like the only reason she even did that is because E! managed to break the news that she'd given birth (she sent out the Facebook announcement an hour afterwards).

Now, you could argue that Megan Fox isn't as famous as some celebs whose pregnancies are obsessively followed from start to finish, but I think she just really wanted to do this on her own terms. Maybe it's because she's made a name for herself as a sex symbol, and didn't want to hurt her image with too many pregnancy photos -- but my guess is that she just didn't feel like sharing this part of her life with the world. I got the same vibe from Drew Barrymore, didn't you?

Whatever a celebrity's reason is for keeping something under wraps, it's interesting to see that it really can be done. Take note, Hollywood.

Why do you think Megan Fox never confirmed her pregnancy?
