Johnny Depp’s New Book Imprint Makes Publishing World Hot & Brilliant (Like Him)

johnny deppPersonally, I'm not surprised to hear that Johnny Depp is launching a book publishing imprint called Infinitum Nihil (part of HarperCollins). Depp has always been the thinking woman's sex symbol, after all, with more ties to the literary world than most people realize: He was a close friend of the now-departed genius author/gonzo journalist Hunter S. Thompson (both Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas and The Rum Diary were based on his books); he narrated parts of the audio edition of Keith Richards’ memoir, Life (absolutely brilliant); and some of his most famous starring roles have been in film adaptations of books (What's Eating Gilbert Grape, Blow & Sleepy Hollow, to name just a few). He's even played a rare book dealer (The Ninth Gate) and a literary icon (Peter Pan-author J.M. Barrie in Finding Neverland).

Of course Depp's already got some amazing words in the works ...

The first two books to be published are The Unraveled Tales of Bob Dylan by Doug Brinkley and House of Earth, an unpublished novel by folk singer Woody Guthrie -- because naturally the rock star side of Depp would go the musical route! (Hopefully this means more rock 'n' roll-related titles to come.)

So Johnny Depp is going to singlehandedly save the publishing industry -- or, at the very least, bring a much-needed dose of badass to the book world. In a statement announcing the venture, Depp said:

“I pledge, on behalf of Infinitum Nihil, that we will do our best to deliver publications worthy of peoples' time, of peoples' concern. Publications that might ordinarily never have breached the parapet. For this dream realized, we would like to salute HarperCollins for their faith in us and look forward to a long and fruitful relationship together.”

(Oh, and by the way? Infinitum Nihil means "nothing is forever" in Latin and is also the name of Depp's production company.)

In conclusion, Johnny Depp is as intelligent as he is talented and devastatingly handsome.
