Paris Hilton’s Anti-Gay Rant Puts Her Back on the Map

paris hiltonHey, remember Paris Hilton? She was friends with Kim Kardashian and Nicole Richie a few years ago? Tall? Blond? Anyway, she's back in the news. The 31-year-old Heiress was secretly recorded saying some pretty nasty things about gay men by a cab driver on September 7. She said most gay men probably have AIDS and that they're the horniest people in the word. Not good.

But the best part about it is Paris' rep's comment. According to him, Paris was just simply making a statement about how dangerous it is to have unprotected sex. Mmmhmm. D'OK.

Here's what Paris said:

Ewwww ... gay guys are the horniest people in the world. Most of them probably have AIDS ... I would be so scared if I was a gay guy ... you'll like die of AIDS.

And her rep says:

Paris Hilton’s comments were to express that it is dangerous for anyone to have unprotected sex that could lead to a life threatening disease.

Paris was just having a thoughtful conversation about the perils of unprotected sex? I don't buy it.

But what I do buy is the fact that Paris' words were taken out of context and were sold by the cabbie to try and make a buck. Ms. Hilton was riding in the backseat with a gay friend of hers, and they were looking at the gay hook-up site Grindr, and her friend told her that he knows someone who's on the site who has AIDS, who's having sex with people he meets online. And then Paris slurred her comment in what sounds like a tipsy haze.

Listen, I don't think Paris is homophobic nor do I think that she really thinks all gay men have AIDS, but I do think the rep made things worse with his statement -- trying to spin it like Paris was solving the world's health crisis in the backseat of a cab is a little absurd.

Alllll that said, we should all welcome Paris Hilton back onto the scene. Can I get a slow clap for an Heiress? With Kim's "career" on fire, and with Lindsay and Amanda settling in to take their thrones as the Crazy Queens, it's nice to have Paris again, even if it is because of a misunderstood quote about gay men. Ah, Paris in the news. Kind of makes you nostalgic, doesn't it?

What do you think about Paris' comment?
