Kourtney Kardashian's 'Mom Fail' Looks Like Good Parenting to Me

Kourtney kardashian PenelopeHere's a sentence I never thought I'd write: I feel bad for Kourtney Kardashian right now. Big sister Kim snapped a photo of the new mom making breakfast with baby Penelope nestled all snug as a bug in her sling. And the world erupted.

Only they didn't awwww like I did. There's a glut of attacks for mama Kourt for -- as they say -- putting her baby in horrible danger.

Wait, really?

Multi-tasking is now a no-no? Or as Joanna at Babble calls it "a mom fail waiting to happen"?

And here I thought it was the only way any of us with small children actually got shit done!

When I look at Kourtney making breakfast, I see me seven years ago (sans the funny hat ... although I have to say I am a bit of a sock monkey fan myself ... maybe Kourt would be willing to share? Call me girl!). If I didn't have my daughter on my hip, or at least in my very near vicinity, she was not a happy camper. And by that I mean she screamed. Loudly. To the point where I worried that the neighbors were going to call the cops and report a baby abandoned by its mother.

So yeah, I did exactly what Kourtney did. No wait, I'm lying. I really never got the sling to work. I actually had to hold my daughter while I stirred whatever meal I could think of that could be made in the smallest amount of time possible.

And my confessions get worse! In order to actually shower, I ... wait for it ... took my daughter in there with me. Yes. I held a wet, slippery baby under the showerhead. And those particular showers may just rank up there as some of the most rejuvenating of my life. Yes! I could do this! I could be a mom and NOT smell like something the cat dragged in ... all at the same time.

I'll have you know that there were accidents along the way. Once I was walking with my daughter while simultaneously babysitting a friend's son. He darted in front of me. I tripped. We went down.

It happened. And I don't consider it a mom fail at all. I consider it life.

So what if little Mason Disick does -- as Kourt's critics warn -- run into the room while she's cooking breakfast? What if he trips her? I'd consider that life too. Not a mom fail. Just part of parenting.

Sooo, folks, let's recap ... if it's now dangerous and irresponsible to calm your fussy baby and try to make your family something to eat at the same time, I don't want to be responsible. I'm taking the Kourtney Kardashian road of parenting here. The good news is I can actually function because of it.
