Jennie Garth’s Divorce Has Taken a Toll on Her Weight

Jennie Garth Jennie Garth is struggling after her recent split with husband of 11 years Peter Facinelli, and not just emotionally. The mother of three is visibly shedding pounds. OK, so she's not skin and bones like Demi Moore post-Ashton Kutcher saga, but people everywhere are most definitely talking, and man do I feel bad for her.

Garth is the first to admit that her recent weight loss has everything to do with her emotional state. She explains to ET that she's been going through a transitional time:

"I think anybody who has been through something like what I'm going through ... can definitely relate that your body changes with your emotional state of mind sometimes. I think a lot of women can relate to that."

Wow. Could Jennie be preaching any more of the truth? I know I've been there. I wouldn't doubt that you've been there, too.

Weight is a very personal thing. When you're going through a difficult time, it's one of the few things you actually have control over, which is why it almost always fluctuates.

For me, my weight went in the opposite direction from Jennie's. I remember back in high school when my parents were going through a divorce, I was at least 60 pounds more than I am now. I was stressed constantly, unsure of everything, and looking for an emotional support. That support I found through food. French fries, ice cream, pancakes -- you name it, I was eating it.

After the fact, I look back and wonder what I was thinking. In the moment, you don't realize what you're doing and how it's affecting your health. What's important, though, is that you learn from the bad times. Now, I know there are other ways to channel my energy when I'm upset. Whether it be working out, spending more time with friends, or picking up a new hobby -- there are alternatives.

For Jennie -- maybe that outlet can be found by focusing on her new reality show. I've got faith in ya, girl.

Do you connect emotional distress with weight gain and loss?
