Steamy New 'Twilight' Fan Fiction Series Might Be the Next '50 Shades of Grey' (VIDEO)

gabriel's infernoIf you've already worked your way through the Fifty Shades of Grey trilogy, and you're already getting a bit burned out on all the movie gossip, you're not alone. Plenty of other Fifty fans are in the same boat and could use a cure STAT. Good thing there's a steamy new book series -- Gabriel's Inferno -- that's being touted as The Next Big Thing!

Like Fifty Shades of Grey, Gabriel's Inferno and its sequel, Gabriel's Rapture -- published under the pen name Sylvain Reynard -- started out as Twilight fan fiction. The original title was The University of Edward Masen, and like E.L. James wrote under the online pseudonym, Snowqueens Icedragon, University was written by Sebastien Robichaud. But now Robichaud/Reynard is set for major success ...

Until recently, his stories have been available as e-books and through indie publisher, Omnific Publishing, but the author has recently inked a "substantial seven-figure deal" with Penguin Group's Berkley imprint. That means 500,000 new trade paperback copies of the book will hit shelves in the next few months. Must be pretty amazing, huh?!

Apparently, the story is a "sinful exploration of sex, love, and redemption" between a Dante scholar named Gabriel Emerson (fashioned after Edward) and his graduate student Julianne Mitchell (inspired by Bella). A GoodReads synopsis makes the plot sound verrrry familiar ...

[Gabriel] uses his notorious good looks and sophisticated charm to gratify his every whim, but is secretly tortured by his dark past and consumed by the profound belief that he is beyond all hope of redemption. When the sweet and innocent Julia Mitchell enrolls as his graduate student, his attraction and mysterious connection to her not only jeopardizes his career, but sends him on a journey in which his past and his present collide.

And reviews on Amazon make Reynard's book seem like a smarter version of Fifty Shades, calling it "thinking woman's porn" and applauding the character development. Wow -- could be amazing!

Although, I gotta be honest: I wonder if something that sounds so similar to Fifty Shades can get off the ground in an equally mainstream way. If it does, though, I could see it being HUGE. E.L. better watch her back! Sounds like this Sylvain guy is comin' for her in a major way.
