Kendall & Kylie Jenner Get Bold With Mixed Patterns & You Can Too

Kendall and Kylie JennerDon't get me wrong: Keeping Up With the Kardashians and all things Kimye are my guilty pleasures. Lately, though, I'm loving watching the youngest Dash dolls, Kendall and Kylie Jenner, come into their own. The two sisters are on the front of the September issue of Seventeen. I feel like this isn't necessarily Kylie's best photo, but you know what I do adore? They're mixing patterns!

Yeah, it's bold. It's bright. It's a lot going on. But mixing patterns is totally in for the fall season and I think these two pint-sized Dash dolls have the right attitude to pull it off.

Think you're up for the challenge? Check out these 4 easy tips for mixing patterns:

1. Keep things in the same color palette: As you can see, Kendall and Kylie stuck to a blue and red theme. The last thing you want to do is mix, for example, bright pink zebra with orange and green polka dotted blouse.

2. Don't get too matchy matchy: Try to stay away from two patterned items that are the same, i.e., a thin-striped top and a thin-striped bottom. Opt for a plaid with a stripe, or you can even do thin and thick striped together.

3. Throw in a few neutrals: Whether it's just a headband or a solid colored shoe, tossing a few neutral solid pieces into the mix helps even out the visual stimulation.

4. Wear them to the right places: Of course, if done right, you can wear your multi-patterned look out on the weekends and to the office. However, keep it toned down for more serious events. Job interviews, important dinners, you know the deal.

Do you mix patterns? Do you have any tips and tricks of your own?
