Kate Middleton's Summer Staples Are Totally Splurge-Worthy (PHOTOS)

Kate MiddletonSince Kate Middleton became the Duchess of Cambridge a little over a year ago, she's been a hardcore style icon. Within seconds of being photographed in public, nearly every piece she owns is sold out at stores around the globe. Rightfully so, too, since hello -- they're all adorbs. Sure, I was a fan of the wedding dress, but it was her J Brand jeans which made me realize she's a serious fashionista after my own heart.

Kate was spotted at French Connection in London over the weekend where she bought a simplistic ice blue tank perfect for summer. Good choice, Kate! Tanks are a seasonal MUST-have. After seeing some of the Duchess' more recent style choices, I think I have a few guesses as to what else is in her closet as the temperatures heat up.

Check out Kate's new tank and some of her other summer style staples (if we have anything to say about it) here:

  • Simplistic Tanks

    frenchconnection.com, about $72 USD

With the right accessories, structured tanks are the perfect summer choice for a night on the town.

  • Colored Denim

The world went gaga for Kate's bright coral pants in March. Rightfully so, colored denim is a HUGE must-have for summer 2012.

Not looking to spend almost $200 on Kate's pair of J Brand jeans? No worries. There are LOADS of fun alternatives spanning stores everywhere right now.

  • The Slit

    zappos.com, $110.99

Holy Jolie! Kate absolutely ROCKED the leg-baring look at a private dinner in London last week. Why stop showing a little leg off on the red carpet, eh? This printed maxi dress from BCBG is a comfortable summer staple fit for a princess.

  • Nude Wedges

On Mother's Day, the Duchess headed out to her husband's polo match wearing a fantastic pair of wedges -- and I loved 'em. Just like a good pair of nude pumps, tan-colored wedges elongate the leg and are a must-have for the warmer months.

Clockwise from top left: Matisse Wedges from onlineshoes.com, $64.95, Michael Kors Damita Wedges from zappos.com, $120,  Gladiator Espadrille Wedges from asos.com, $76.03, and Franco Sarto Allison Wedges from dsw.com, $59.95.

  • Peplum

    asos.com, $60.88; bcbg.com, $139

Peplum may not be my thing, personally, but Kate looked gorge in a peplum-detailed dress this past April at the premiere of African Cats. Something tells me that this funky yet trendy embellishment is here to stay for summer.

The good thing about peplum? It can be dressed down or dressed up depending on the material you're dealing with.

What are your favorite pieces in Kate's wardrobe? Have you ever bought an item she's worn?
