'Twilight' Stars Take Cannes 2012 & Their 4 New Flicks Hit the Fest

cosmopolis posterOn the Road posterAlthough Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart were most recently spied in the U.K., I'll bet they've made their way down to the South of France by now, because the Cannes Film Festival begins today! I know, when you think Cannes, you don't necessarily think Twilight. Nothing against the uber-successful vampire franchise, but it's just not the arty kind of film we tend to associate with the annual event. Nonetheless, the principle players -- RPattz, KStew, and TLaut, oh my! -- are all moving on and making flicks that are sure to take the famous film fest by storm.

Here, your complete guide to the Twi-Stars' exciting submissions to the Competition and flicks that will premiere at Cannes ...

Kristen Stewart may currently be promoting her hopeful box office smash Snow White & the Huntsman (also referred to with fans' affectionate acronym, SWATH), but KStew's On the Road, directed by Walter Salles, will compete at Cannes. She plays Marylou in the flick based on Jack Kerouac's famous novel. Must see! I wouldn't be surprised if this role gets KStew nominated for some more serious awards.

Meanwhile, Taylor Lautner's new action thriller flick Tracers is premiering and selling at the fest. He plays Cam, a messenger in NYC who is in debt to an organized crime gang. Huh ... Honestly, the plot doesn't sound all that original, but the flick could really kickstart his foray into a whole new genre of films. Onward and upward, TLaut!

And last but not least ... Robert Pattinson's got not just one but two films at the fest. Obviously, David Cronenberg's Cosmopolis, which (like On the Road) is based on a novel, and features RPattz "smelling like sex," as we've previously reported. (Awesome!) That one has been selected to compete for the Palme d'Or. Plus, he's in another psychological thriller, Mission: Blacklist, which is also premiering and selling. The storyline sounds really intriguing: It details the inside story of the search for Saddam Hussein and the interrogator, Eric Maddox, who spearheaded his capture. Yeah -- no doubt that one's gonna get snapped up quick!

Can't wait to see how RPattz and KStew fare in their race for Cannes gold, and how the reception is for Mission: Blacklist and Tracers. Pfft. Who are we kidding? No matter what, they're all winners to us.

Which Twi-Star flick are you most excited to see?
