Missing 'Terminator 3' Star May Be Latest in Movie's Tragic 'Curse'

Actor Nick Stahl, the 32-year-old who starred in Terminator 3has gone missing. This is worrisome news, and we can only hope for his safe return. Strangely, though, Stahl's disappearance isn't the first stroke of bad "luck" to hit a Terminator star and may be the latest in a string of unfortunate "John Connor" incidents.

The so-called "John Connor curse" refers to the character in the Terminator movies, played in 1991 by Edward Furlong. Furlong, as you may remember, was hospitalized in 2001 for a suspected heroin overdose, and went on to be arrested for a number of unhappy drug and alcohol related incidents, in addition to violating a restraining order from his estranged wife. Christian Bale then played John Connor in Terminator Salvation and was subsequently caught on tape going ballistic on set during an INSANE expletive-laden rant at a crew member. Thomas Dekker, who played Connor in the Terminator TV series, was busted for a DUI in 2009.

Stahl has been reported missing by his wife, Rose Murphy, who told police that she last saw him on May 9. According to TMZ, Stahl had been spending a lot of time in Los Angeles' Skid Row lately, and there are concerns he may have found himself in serious trouble.

Stahl's definitely been going through rough times lately: he was arrested in March for not being able to pay a cabbie an $84 fee, despite reportedly making $500,000 in 2011. A month before that, his wife filed papers to prevent him from seeing their daughter without "proof of a negative result for a test for drugs and alcohol within the 24 hours prior to his scheduled visitation time." She claimed she was fearful for her daughter's safety, and asked that his visitation be limited to just 8 hours a week and that all visits be supervised.

So, I'm not saying there really is a John Connor curse, but isn't it bizarre how many actors have had trouble since playing the character? I mean, I guess I wouldn't categorize Bale's on-set freakout the same as the other folks' addiction issues, but still ... it makes you wonder.

Stahl's had a pretty decent career in the past, having appeared not only in Terminator 3, but also in The Man Without a Face, Disturbing Behavior, The Thin Red Line, and the HBO series Carnivale. Any disappearance would be scary, but given his history of drug use, this story doesn't seem like it's heading toward a happy ending. Here's hoping he's found soon, alive and well, and that whatever demons he's battling can be overcome.

What do you think about the John Connor curse? Just a weird coincidence?
