Axl Rose Is Too Rock & Roll for Hall of Fame (But Not for High School Drama) (VIDEO)

You can take him down to Paradise City, but for the love of cold November rain, don't ask Axl Rose to attend the April 14th Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony. Apparently Mr. Rose not only wishes to decline his invitation, he strongly requests that no one be authorized or permitted to accept ANY induction for him -- or speak on his behalf.

Jeez, who peed in Axl Rose's Wheaties? I mean, if he has an important plastic surgery booked or something it seems like he could always reschedule.

Oh wait, his letter says that after he read "various public comments and jabs from former members of Guns N' Roses (…) the Hall Of Fame Induction Ceremony doesn't appear to be somewhere I'm actually wanted or respected." Ahhhh, I see. This is all about his bad bromance with Slash.

It's no secret that Axl Rose and Slash haven't exactly been BFFs in recent years. The last time they shared a stage was 1993, and since then the two have been pretty public with their feud. In 2009, Rose said he considered Slash a "cancer," a comment which Slash took the high road in responding to:

I lost my mom to cancer so that was a little bit of hard rhetoric at that particular time, but it's typical Axl stuff... I know how he comes off and how he really is, so I give him credit where hopefully it's due.

It seems Slash would be open to a reconciliation, based on his answer in 2011 when asked what he would do if Rose apologized and proposed that they teamed back up to make music together:

That would be a call I would be surprised to get. (…) But if it did happen, I would do whatever it takes to at least have a conversation about it.

But fans probably shouldn't be holding their breath waiting for a classic G'nR reunion tour, since Slash also told Rolling Stone earlier this month that he and Rose weren't even on speaking terms:

He hates my guts. It's over a lot of different stuff; I don't even know. There's just no communication between us.

In Axl Rose's (amusingly long-winded) open letter to "The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame, Guns N' Roses Fans and Whom It May Concern," he declined his invitation, said that any discussion of a reunion of the classic Guns N' Roses lineup was a "misguided effort to distract from our efforts" with his current band, and went on to say,

So let sleeping dogs lie or lying dogs sleep or whatever. Time to move on. People get divorced. Life doesn't owe you your own personal happy ending especially at another's, or in this case several others', expense.

Well okay then! Man, and I thought my four-year-old was stubborn and could hold a grudge—he's got nothing on Axl Rose.

At any rate, other members of the band are still on the guest list, and Slash is still planning to attend. I'm assuming he'll be more than happy to collect his trophy this year alongside the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Beastie Boys and more. It's too bad Rose can't put aside his differences long enough to accept one of the industry's highest honors, but as the man once sang: Everybody needs some time... on their own

Do you think it's silly that Axl Rose is declining the Hall of Fame invitation?
