‘Game of Thrones’ Season 3 Will Be the Best One Yet

Game of ThronesFellow Game of Thrones fans, rejoice! HBO has renewed the show for a third season, after pretty stellar ratings (as far as HBO goes) for the second season premiere. Almost four million people tuned in to the premiere, which makes the show one of HBO's highest rated programs in months. Whew, I'm so glad I'm not the only one totally geeking out about this series!

In even better news, the second show was watched by 3.8 million, which is fantastic, considering the numbers usually go way down after a premiere. It's also interesting because the first season drew in just 2 million viewers on average. That must mean a lot of people were wondering what the hype was all about and had to tune in -- and now they're hooked too!

I don't know about you, but I've been loving the second season so far (and I guess the ratings speak for themselves). Even though we've been getting away from the characters we came to love during the first season, the game of thrones has become even more complex, the characters have been able to grow and become much more fascinating, the acting is incredible, and the show is full of classic one-liners, heart-wrenching family dynamics, and of course ... lots of violence and sex.

The show's stand-out star, Peter Dinklage, who plays the cunning Tyrion Lannister, actually told The New York Times that he's signed on for six seasons! We can only hope that the show goes on for so long. Tyrion and Dinklage's performance represent everything we love about Game of Thrones. Part of the reason I tune in every week is just to see what Tyrion does and watch how progressively more awesome he can get.

As for now, we can only assume that the third season will be based on George R.R. Martin’s A Storm of Swords, the third novel in the “Song of Ice and Fire” series. Given the fact that the book is over 1,200 pages, HBO may have to break this book up into two seasons -- they want to give it all the time it requires, since this installment has long been a fan favorite (and they're well aware that we'll all tune in).

I can't wait to see how they'll deal with the story as it gets more complicated and intriguing. Let's enjoy the second season for now and then start the countdown yet again -- this is the only time I'll be happy to say that more winter is coming!

Are you excited that HBO ordered a third season of Game of Thrones?
