Christie Brinkley & Ex's Angry 'Today' Show Appearances Make Them Look Nuts (VIDEO)

Christie Brinkley's been famous for a number of reasons throughout the years, including her record-breaking three consecutive appearances on the cover of the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue in the late 70's, her seemingly endless contract with CoverGirl, and her status as a symbol of hope to funny-looking guys everywhere when she married Billy Joel in 1985.

While Brinkley was ranked as the 16th "Hottest Woman of All Time" by Men's Health in 2011, she hasn't exactly been in the limelight during recent years. Unfortunately—or fortunately, depending on where your sympathies lie—she's back in the news right now, thanks to a mysteriously public spat with her ex-husband Peter Cook.

Brinkley and Cook divorced back in 2008, but clearly the signed papers offered little in the way of closure. They've been embroiled in a nasty fight for years, highlights which include an admission from Cook that he cheated on her with an 18-year-old, accusations that he was spending thousands on Internet porn, demands from Cook's side that Brinkley attend anger management classes, and on it goes.

Normally this is the kind of stuff that happens behind closed doors, but for whatever reason, when Brinkley appeared on the Today show yesterday in order to pimp her return to Broadway (she'll be playing Roxie Hart in Chicago during April), there was an entire segment dedicated to her battle with Cook.

If you watch the video, it's pretty obvious she was aware of where the discussion was going—it's not like Matt Lauer totally ambushed her with an unexpected interview twist. It's EIGHT MINUTES of her ranting about her ex on national television, for god's sake.

Take a look:

Naturally, Cook fired back the next day with his own appearance on the EXACT SAME PROGRAM.

I can't even rate the grossness going on here. Christie Brinkley: you're gross for using a TV show as platform for bitching about your ex. Peter Cook: you're gross for jumping on the TV bandwagon 24 hours later and keeping the character assassination going. Today, you're SUPER gross for turning this childish behavior into a public spectacle.

Honestly, the only reason I can think of for making the fight into such a media circus is for fame. Either both of these folks are angling for public sympathy, or they've got some other plan in the works. Call me cynical, but I wouldn't be surprised at all if one or both of them announces a reality show soon.

The extra crappy thing here is that they have kids, who I'm sure just love seeing their celebrity parents duke it out on TV. Since Brinkley and Cook both claim that all they want is peace, why not actually work towards achieving that goal? Step one: stop talking about each other on the freaking Today show.

What do you think is going on here? Do you think both of these people just want attention, or what?
