'National Enquirer' Whitney Houston Casket Photo Is a Slap to Her Fans

whitney houstonThe fact that The National Enquirer put Whitney Houston's casket photo on their cover in the days after her funeral isn't a big shock -- however, it is a huge slap in the face to her fans who are still mourning her.

And considering that The National Enquirer can be found in pretty much every single check-out line of every single grocery store in America, it's pretty hard to avoid seeing the photo of Whitney lying in her casket if it is something you really have no interest in viewing. I mean -- how many times have you found your eyes being drawn to whatever nutty story was on the cover of The Enquirer while waiting for your turn to buy eggs and milk?

Odds are very good that most die-hard Whitney Houston fans would much rather remember her as a vibrant woman on stage who was full of life instead of having their last image of her be a picture of her lying in her coffin.

It's no secret that Whitney had her fair share of emotional problems in the months before her death. And even though it is highly speculated that either drugs, alcohol, or both were probably the reason for her tragic passing, most fans still have very fond memories of the "old" Whitney, back in the days before she gave into the pressures of stardom.

I think it's safe to say that most people who loved Houston and her music would much rather picture her in The Bodyguard, or belting out her amazing version of the "National Anthem" instead of having that casket photo pop into their heads as their final image. And even if The Enquirer didn't give a hoot (which they obviously didn't) about whether or not fans would be upset by the image of her in her casket, they should've at least had a shred of decency left to consider how her family would feel about the photo being released. What the heck were they thinking?

Viewing a body before burial is a very private thing for a family, and it isn't a moment that should be plastered all over the front of tabloids in an effort to make a few bucks. And I can't even begin to imagine just how horrified Whitney's daughter, Bobbi Kristina, must have been upon hearing about that cover. The National Enquirer has always had a reputation for being sleazy -- but publishing this casket photo really brought them to a new low. Shame on them.

Were you shocked when Whitney Houston's casket photo was published?
