Kate Middleton’s ‘Fur’ Coat Narrowly Escapes the Wrath of PETA

kate middletonIt's rare that you hear about PETA sticking up for celebrities. In fact, typically it's the opposite -- PETA's usually going after celebrities. Kim Kardashian, Rihanna, Janet Jackson. But there's one woman every group -- be they animal lovers or animal haters -- wants on their side: Kate Middleton.

Recently, a fur advocacy group, the International Fur Trade Federation (IFTF), posted a photo of Kate wearing a "fur" trimmed jacket on their Facebook page to garner some publicity. They quickly named the Duchess as being a card-carrying member of Team Real Fur and sung the praises of her "classy fur-lined coat."

But. When PETA got wind of this -- oof, were they pissed. I mean, everybody wants Kate on their team. So, they did a little digging (for a change) and found out that, actually, Kate's coat wasn't lined with real fur.

Should've know. Perfect Princess.

The details are hazy as to what lengths PETA went to to get to the bottom of things, but however it went down, it ended in a letter to the IFTF from Representatives of Duchess Catherine saying this:

Her Royal Highness was not wearing fur. The coat was not lined with fur. We therefore insist that you remove the photo from your social media page and issue an immediate public retraction of your claim.

Obviously, the photo was taken down. So, looks like, for now, Kate is on Team PETA. Sort of. She's on Team PETA as far as wearing fur goes. In the past, the group went after her for dining on foie gras and sent a letter to her regarding a game birds shoot. But that's neither here nor there. Well, I guess it sort of is, but we're talking about a fur-trimmed coat right now. And the fact that the Duchess wasn't wearing one. And the fact that that's a very good thing for PETA, 'cause if anybody is capable of starting a trend, it's Her Royal Highness.

Now, if they could only do something about the leather shoes she wears.

Do you wear fur?
