Adele Flips the Bird for Understandable Reason (VIDEO)

AdeleJust three weeks after rapper M.I.A shocked Super Bowl viewers by flipping the bird during her performance with Madonna, British singing phenom Adele did the same on  stage ... but for a much better reason. While M.I.A. seemed to do it for shock value and just because she could, Adele did it to make an understandable point.

It happened Tuesday evening at the Brit Awards 2012 in London. She was up on stage after winning the award for best album, giving her acceptance speech. "I am so proud to be British and to be flying the flag, and I'm so proud to be in the room with all of you," she was saying, when the host came up and cut her off.

Clearly flustered, she gave a short goodbye, then let the booing crowd know that she too wasn't happy about it. She raised her middle finger and exited the stage with the big eff you lingering in the air and on live TV. Check it out after the jump.

There's no mistaking how she was feeling, now is there? She told the BBC exactly who the move was directed at and why. "I flung the middle finger. That was for the suits at the Brit Awards, not my fans. I'm sorry if I offended anyone but the suits offended me."

So maybe it wasn't the most gracious way to thank the people who just gave her an award, but it is understandable. No one likes to be interrupted, especially at such an amazing moment in their life, with so many watching. I bet plenty of other award recipients have wanted to do the same. Some of them need to be cut off when they go on and on, but in this case, Adele barely got more than a few words out before she was cut off.

Producers said they were running over on the schedule, but Adele shouldn't have to pay for that.  And the show's producers do seem to realize they were wrong. A spokesperson for the Brits told the paper,

We regret this happened and we send our deepest apologies to Adele that her big moment was cut short. We don't want this to undermine her incredible achievement in winning our night's biggest award. It tops off what's been an incredible year for her.

So yes, it was a bit of a diva move on Adele's part, but it was a pretty justifiable one at that. I bet no one is going to interrupt her again without thinking twice either.

What do you think of Adele flipping off producers at the Brit music awards -- childish and rude or right on?
