New ‘21 Jump Street’ Has Secret Weapon to Distract Us From Johnny Depp Absence (VIDEO)

21 jump streetHere's the thing: I totally expected to hate the trailer for 21 Jump Street. No offense to Jonah Hill or Channing Tatum, but I'll always think of 21 Jump Street as the show that introduced me and my giddy-with-hormones teenage girlfriends to the phenomenon that is Johnny Depp. Of course, to be perfectly honest, I don't actually remember all that much about the original series in terms of plot or character development or dialogue. What I do remember is sitting on my best friend's couch passing a can of Pringles back and forth while screaming, "Oh my god, he's so cute!"

So of course when I heard they were making a movie based on the TV show, which would, obviously, not star Johnny Depp as a baby-faced undercover police officer investigating a crime-ridden high school, I wasn't exactly counting down the days 'til the premiere.

But then I watched the trailer ...

And guess what?

It was wrong, very wrong of me to dismiss the movie without even giving it a chance. Because while Johnny Depp's absence is certainly a drawback (to any non-Depp flick, arguably), the new 21 Jump Street is so completely different from the original series, it barely even matters. And even though the film doesn't have Depp, it does have something else in its favor -- an awesome sense of humor. I hate to use the term "laughed out loud," but, well ... that's what I did when I watched the trailer. It's really that funny. Watch the clip below and see for yourself ...

Do you think 21 Jump Street the movie will be as good (or better) than the TV series?
