Nick Cannon Quits His Job for the Right Reason

nick cannonNick Cannon is taking time off from work to get some rest. The 31-year-old husband of Mariah Carey was recently hospitalized with kidney failure and blood clots, and the doctors have ordered him to cut back on his professional obligations so that he can get the rest his body needs to heal itself fully and properly. Cannon announced in a statement today that he'll stop working at WXRK (92.3 FM) -- he was a part of the New York station's morning show team -- and concluded his resignation declaration with "even Superman has to sleep."

I'm sure it wasn't an easy decision to make; Nick's been working pretty much non-stop since he starred in my favorite show of all time, Nickelodeon's All That. But he made the right choice. He has (and ohmygod I can't believe I'm going to use this ridiculous phrase of theirs) "dem babies" to worry about.

If taking a step back from his career is going to mean he'll be a healthy dad who'll be around long enough to see his granddembabies, then I'm sure Nick knew what he had to do. Plus, it's not like we'll miss him that much in the entertainment world. He'll still host America's Got Talent and his syndicated radio show, Countdown With Cannon.

And who knows. Maybe his time at home will lend itself to an awesome collaboration with Mariah. An album of duets would be boss. Or a reality show. Can't get enough of those. Whatever comes out of his mandated R&R, I wish him a speedy recovery and lots of snuggle time with his twins.

What would you do if your doctor told you to get some more rest?
