Golden Globes 2012 Host Ricky Gervais Is Right to 'Target' Self-Obsessed Stars (VIDEO)

Ricky Gervais Golden Globes hostThe wait is almost over! On tonight's Golden Globes 2012, scathingly funny Brit Ricky Gervais is baaaaaaaaack to host the fete, and he's already got the A-list attendees shaking in their Blahniks. As you must recall, Gervais became infamous overnight in Hollywood when he hosted last year and "bullied" the stars. Tinsel Town seemed so offended by his biting humor, but it's for that reason that he's returning. Obviously, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association couldn't pass up the opportunity for a repeat ratings win.

At the same time, Ricky wasn't about to skip out on another opportunity to skewer Golden Globe nominees like never before! Over the past year, he promised that if he were to host again, he would "pull exactly the same s*** again or even worse." Ha! Now, he's elaborated on just how controversial we can expect him to be and who he might offend.

Recently, Ricky appeared at the Television Critics' Association winter press tour panel for his new series, Life's Too Short and told press:

I have specific targets, but targets is a word I wouldn’t use — [they're] subjects ... I’m going to do a monologue about the year and then [ding] six or seven people ... like I did last year.

Hmm, okay, his plan sounds like exactly what we viewers -- and the Globes attendees and HFPA -- have come to expect from Ricky. And you know what? It's a shtick we NEED! Sheeze, we could use more of it. Just "six or seven people," Ricky? He should go after at least 50 percent of the room!

Think about it ... All year long, the Hollywood elite are fawned over on red carpets, unnecessarily coddled by both the media and their handlers, get showered in millions from not just their work magazine deals/endorsements, etc., and are generally treated like they're the Grecian gods and goddesses of modern times. But NOW, we've got a guy who can come along just once a year (like Santa Claus!) and knock 'em off their pedestal in one fell swoop! A guy who can remind us that they may be talented actors/directors/producers, but they're just people too -- many of whom could use a dose of reality to get over themselves. So, really, thank God for Ricky!!

And after all, as the comedian himself said, he doesn't mean any harm:

I don’t have anything against anyone in the room; they’re just gags. I’m not trying to hurt anyone’s feelings. I’m a comedian. I’d rather they laugh than gasp, but I cherish the gasps along with the laughs.

Total proof anyone who turns up offended by Ricky's performance tonight could use a couple of things more than any shiny award: Humility and a sense of humor!

Here's last year's opening monologue for giggles. (Love the Scientology gag around 3:10, haaa ...)

Do you plan to watch the Golden Globes tonight? Are you a fan of Ricky Gervais's brand of humor?
