Angelina Jolie Belongs in the White House (PHOTO)

Hearing that Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt stopped by the White House for a quick huddle last night has sent some in the media into even more of a tongue-clucking tizzy. Quite laughable, considering that celebs have likely been visiting the Oval Office since George and Martha were in residence. (Hello, doesn't anyone remember the famous photograph of Nixon shaking hands with Elvis?) And this wasn't even some publicity stunt. Angie means business!

As a UN Goodwill Ambassador and also director of the new politically-charged flick In the Land of Blood and Honey, Angelina's got the credentials -- and passion! -- to be meeting with the Prez.

A White House deputy press secretary specified that Angie and Barry spoke about "[Angelina's] work to raise the profile of preventing mass atrocities and combating sexual violence against women."

Sounds like something more than worthy of our chief executive's attention. This isn't just an example of the President wasting his entertaining the platform of spoiled, silly Hollywood royalty. Hell. No. Angie and Brad have just as much a right to sit down with Obama as any high-profile, hardworking social/political activist. They're very much invested in the causes they work on, and they even conferenced with Obama back in '09 on Brad's work rebuilding New Orleans’ 9th Ward after Hurricane Katrina.

Come to think of it, I see this meeting as something of a watershed moment ... Angelina has spoken recently about perhaps getting out of acting and focusing her energies elsewhere. Perhaps there's a chance she's interested in taking her political interests even further at some point? You know where I'm going with this ... Angie for President!! How awesome would it be to see her and Brad as the First Couple? Hey, call me crazy, but it wouldn't be the first time an actor became Commander-in-Chief (cough Reagan! cough). Okay, and if not Prez, maybe Congresswoman, Senator, even Mayor of L.A.?

Given how drawn she is to activism and domestic and international politics, I think she'd be a natural to run for public office. There certainly have been significantly less qualified candidates --  that's for sure!

How do you feel about Angie and Brad meeting with President Obama? What do you think about her running for public office?
