Tina Fey & Beyonce’s Celebrity Childbirth Experiences Were Nothing Alike (VIDEO)

First things first: I don't care how Beyonce gave birth, as far as the actual biological process is concerned. I think it's insane that people have been criticizing her for possibly having a C-section, and the whole bizarre focus on Beyonce's vaginal status (SHOW US PROOF, cry the masses) gives me a serious case of the heebs.

That said, I do agree that if Beyonce's hospital security situation went down the way people are reporting it did, that's exceedingly messed up. Like, messed up to the point where if there aren't a flurry of lawsuits in the next few weeks, I'll be shocked.

Which is why I love, love, love Tina Fey's wry comment about her own experience giving birth at New York's Lenox Hill. If Beyonce had the high-end luxury treatment, Tina Fey had … well, pretty much the total opposite.

Fey was on The Today Show yesterday when she described what her A-lister status got her after childbirth:

My celebrity treatment at Lenox Hill involved taking a group breastfeeding class in a closet. It's clearly supposed to be a storage closet with a bunch of other mothers, and a nurse grabs one of your breasts and another lady's and is shoving them in a baby's mouth.

Can I get a show of hands from everyone that would have loved to have been in a breastfeeding class with Tina Fey? Oh my god, that sounds almost painfully awesome.

Beyonce? Ehhhh, not so much. Especially since 1) that would never happen ever, and 2) if for some reason you accidentally did end up in a room with her and her baby, a bodyguard would probably flash you with one of those memory-erasing
Men in Black thingies before dragging you out into the alley and locking the door.

It's clear that not every celebrity gets (or maybe even wants) the red carpet treatment during birth, since Fey's
30 Rock costar Jane Krakowski also joked that she "had a very similar experience to Jay-Z and Beyonce" when she had her son last April.

As for whether or not Beyonce deserves the backlash about her own hospital stay, even
NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg has weighed in on the matter:

If [the hospital] got paid a lot of money and it let them provide services to other people who don't have insurance or can't afford it, I'm not so sure it's a bad thing. Full-paying patients are very valuable to hospitals in this day and age. (…) It's easy to go and criticize, but somebody's got to pay.

(Note that he did add, weakly, that "I don't think you should keep people from seeing their babies, or whatever," so … yeah. Whatever.)

Fey also made a comment that will hopefully help people remember that despite the controversy, there's nothing inherently diva-esque about Lenox Hill:

The nurses at Lenox Hill are fantastic. They are the best. It's a New York City hospital room! There's like an ATM machine in the corner. It's not fancy.

Here's the whole Today Show clip of Fey and Krakowski, which is pretty hilarious:

Man, down to earth celebrities are the best. Too bad there's not a lot more of them.
