Of Course Lindsay Lohan Should Play Elizabeth Taylor

lindsay lohanIn a programming move bolder than playing a Notebook marathon on Valentine's Day, Lifetime is making an original movie titled Elizabeth & Richard: A Love Story and rumor has it that Lindsay Lohan will play dear old Liz. Yes, Lindsay, who hasn't acted in anything significant in years (I'm not counting her "commercials" for "websites" under "house arrest" as anything important) is going to star as one of America's most beloved actresses, fashion icons, and drama queens.

I don't think many people are pleased by the prospect of LiLo playing LizTay, but I, for one, cannot wait. You guys, it's trainwreck Lindsay in a goddamn Lifetime original movie. This is what we've been waiting for, if not what we all predicted.

Remember when Lindsay hosted Saturday Night Live back in 2005? The musical guest was Coldplay, and in her opening monologue, Amy Poehler plays the Ghost of Lindsay Future and warns the young actress that if she doesn't get her act together, she's going to wind up in Lifetime movies, married to Tommie Lee, and bearing an "I love Bo Bice" tattoo on her breast.

So LiLo might not have married anyone nor declared in ink her love for an American Idol hopeful, but she is going to be in Lifetime movies. SNL writers saw this coming the whole time.

But really, who didn't. It's a pretty natural path for Ms. Lohan to take. Reach extreme levels of fame at an early age, get into some heavy partying, go to jail, go to rehab, end up on Lifetime. It's not like she's blazing a trail here.

That said, I do think that Lindsay's got better acting chops than, say, a Tracey Gold or a Tori Spelling. I can't wait to see how she pulls it off as Liz. If she's brilliant, we'll all love her. If she's horrid, we'll all (still) love to hate her. If I'm Lohan, I'm looking at a win-win scenario here that guarantees press, attention, and in the best of circumstances, praise.

Rumor has it that the movie will air sometime this year. Hopefully Lindsay won't get released from the project (like that Gotti movie or that Linda Lovelace biopic) so that we get a chance to see her fulfill the predictions by the Ghost of Lindsay's Future.

Do you think Lindsay Lohan will make a good Elizabeth Taylor?
