'We Bought a Zoo' Reviews Say Matt Damon Is Huggable

'We Bought a Zoo' reviews featuring Matt Damon and Scarlett JohanssonScarlett Johansson and Matt Damon in We Bought a ZooTo think that any normal man would actually purchase a REAL zoo and then move his family there is sheer craziness. However, that's exactly what Benjamin Mee really did in 2006, when he bought the Dartmoor Zoological Park in Devon, England. Directed by the man behind Almost Famous and Jerry Maguire, Cameron Crowe, We Bought a Zoo stars Matt Damon, Scarlett Johansson, Thomas Haden Church, and Patrick Fugit among others. The premise sounds intriguing, for sure. But what do the critics think?

Robert Wilonsky, The Village Voice:

It's a sweet, sincere, utterly affable kids' movie about how parents are all kinds of screwed up and unable to tell their kids what they want or show them how they feel ... Damon has never been more lovable -- the guy looks like he could use a hug.

Michael Phillips, Chicago Tribune:

Damon, thank the family-friendly-movie gods, really knows how to hold his head above the corn.

David Rooney, Hollywood Reporter:

It doesn't dodge the potholes of earnest sentimentality and at times overplays the whimsy. But the uplifting tale has heart, humanity, and a warmly empathetic central performance from Matt Damon.

Peter Travers, Rolling Stone:

There's a lot of fun waiting at We Bought a Zoo, but it's the feelings that run through every scene that'll make you glad you came.

'Tis the season for all things warm and fuzzy, and it sounds like Matt Damon in We Bought a Zoo fits that bill. Check out the We Bought a Zoo trailer, here:
