'Kourtney & Kim Take New York' Recap: Baby Dreams Dashed

Kris Humphries and Kim KardashianWell, thank goodness that didn't happen. Tonight on Kourtney & Kim Take New YorkKim Kardashian and Kris Humphries started out high on a cloud of parental dreams. Just a month into the marriage, they decided they were excited and ready to ditch the birth control and get Kim pregnant as soon as possible. Mason would have a cousin! Kim would be a mom!

But after tucking Kim into Mason's crib (literally), things quickly got less fun. First, Kris Jenner came into town, and for once, her meddling ways were worthwhile. When Kim told her of their plans to start trying for kids right away, her mom pretty much told her that was a ridiculous idea. She said she didn't think they were ready for that responsibility. And that was strike one against a baby.

Kim, though originally irked by her mom's less-than-enthusiastic response to her plan for kids, eventually started thinking she might be right. So she brought up the issue again with her husband, and they ended up getting into a huge fight about where they would raise a kid and who would raise it. Voices were raised, and Kris ended with a below-the-belt hit, "By the time we have kids and they’re in school and all that, no one will probably care about you. Let’s be honest."

Strike three came via Kim's friend La La who confirmed what Kris Jenner said -- that they should wait. Kim is incredibly dependent on other people to make decisions for her, and after that conversation, a baby was out of the immediate game as far as SHE was concerned.

Kris Humphries, however, had only gotten more stoked on the idea of becoming a daddy after having a heart-to-heart with Scott Disick. So there they were on two totally different pages about a major life issue, but, of course, Kim couldn't bring herself to tell Kris how she was really feeling. Instead she just went out and got more birth control. And we wonder why this marriage didn't last? One of the only bright lights in the whole mess is they didn't bring a baby into it.

There was also the whole Scott-Disick-loves-porn story line, but thinking of him doing anything remotely sexual is too much for me to stomach. It was great, however, to see Kourtney call his bluff on the whole threesome thing. He's so not man enough to handle anything like that. Also him talking to Kris Jenner about his sex life with Kourtney was beyond cringe-worthy.

Finally, is it just me, or was 30 minutes enough for an episode of these shows? I love my Sunday night dose of Kardashians, but in this case, it seems less is more.

Do you think their differences about having children are what drove Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries apart?
