Little Big Town Puts Military in Our Hearts With Country Christmas Tribute

little big town cma country christmas military tributeThe country music community put on an outstanding show last night for the CMA Country Christmas special on ABC. But if you were lucky enough to catch the broadcast last night, you know what the best act was: The highlight was Little Big Town's tribute to the US Armed Forces. The four-member band sang "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" while photos of service members flashed on the screen. The broadcast also showed military personnel from Ft. Campbell in the audience.

What a loving tribute to members of our military! I'm so glad CMA thought to pay respect to those who serve our country, especially this time of the year. Many servicemen and women are on their way home now from Iraq, but so many others remain on duty throughout the world. They are deeply missed.

If you haven't heard of Little Big Town before, they're a country music quartet known for their richly-layered harmonies. Their blended voices did a beautiful job of warming this sweet song about missed loved ones during Christmastime. If you missed the special, you can still watch it online. (Look for LBT's tribute around 1:11:40.)

It was a gorgeous, but bittersweet performance. The tribute reminds us of all the servicemen and women living far from their families during the holidays. Was there a dry eye in the entire theater during this song? While military families' hearts swell with pride in their husbands, wives, sons, daughters, fathers, and mothers who are giving everything to serve their country, you know it aches to have those family members so far away during the holidays.

No song can bring the servicemen and women currently on duty overseas back home, but Little Big Town's tribute reminded us all of how loved they are and how grateful we are for their sacrifice. Home or abroad, this time of year, it's especially important that we honor our country's heroes -- and their families.
