Patti LaBelle Screams at a Baby, Shows Her Diva Behavior Is Out of Control

According to a recent lawsuit, Grammy Award-winning singer Patti LaBelle displayed some serious diva behavior in a Manhattan apartment building last year. Apparently LaBelle was quite displeased to have to share the lobby with an 18-month-old toddler—to the point of screaming obscenities at the little girl and throwing a punch at the child's mother.

Wow, I wonder what the toddler could have possibly done to provoke that kind of reaction? Let's just check the lawsuit ... ah, here it is: "LaBelle chastised Roseanna Monk for letting the toddler take some steps away from the mother as she grappled with some luggage and a car seat in the building's lobby on the afternoon of Nov. 11, 2010."

Uhhhhhh. The kid was ... scampering around? That's it? Great, now I have that song stuck in my head: "Hey sister go sister soul sister PYSCHO sister ..."

Apparently after the mom picked up the child and told LaBelle it was none of her business, LaBelle threw water on both mother and child from a bottle she was carrying before launching into an obscenity-filled tirade. When the toddler started crying, Roseanna Monk said, "Are you happy that this is what you have done to this baby?" to LaBelle, at which point the singer (sporting the diva-appropriate attire of oversize sunglass and fur coat) charged at Monk and tried to hit her.

According to Monk's lawyer, LaBelle's entourage then shoved her into a nearby car. Meanwhile, perhaps reacting to the unpleasantness of the situation, the toddler violently threw up all over her mother.

Roseanna Monk and her husband filed a complaint with police, but no arrests were made. As for why the Monk family waited so long to sue LaBelle, they say they decided to move forward with legal action after reading about
another lawsuit filed against LaBelle in June. In that incident, a West Point cadet accused LaBelle of commanding her bodyguards to viciously assault him in a Houston airport, after he reportedly "stood too close to her luggage."

It's always hard to know what really happened in these situations, because you know some people look at a celebrity and see a giant walking pile of dollar bills. Still, you kind of have to wonder when a person is repeatedly sued for the same sort of behavior. Either LaBelle has just had some really bad luck lately, or she really is kind of an intolerable diva—who can say for sure, but if the lawsuit manages to prove she screamed and threw water at a child, I hope she's forced into some anger management classes. God knows 18-month-olds can be a trial, but that kind of reaction is just plain scary.
