'Sister Wives' Recap: Kody's Friend Has Shocking Opinion of the Browns

meri Polygamist burn! Last night's episode of Sister Wives featured a shockingly charged interaction between the Browns and Kody's friends Andy and Nicole, who were visiting from Utah. Shocking for 2 reasons: First, because it involved Kody and his clan being criticized by fellow believers in "The Principle" instead of plural marriage detractors; second, because it actually made me want to take Kody's side (a rare occurrence indeed).

Apparently Andy and Nicole's visit was a reconnaissance mission of sorts. The couple is married with six children, but while they were both raised and believe in polygamy, so far their family is just a one-wife household. Andy seems determined to change that (not so sure about Nicole, judging by the look on her face), and went to Vegas seeking Kody's advice.

And, you know, to insult him and his family ...

It was strange, because Andy seemed to start out praising Kody's, uh, success as a polygamist and wondering how he personally would ever manage to "court" another woman as a married man. Then he dropped the following bomb: Since Kody, Meri, Janelle, Christine and Robyn moved to Vegas and started living in separate houses, Andy considers the family to be essentially divorced, with the wives "sharing custody of Kody."

Say what? Them's fightin' words!

Surprisingly, everybody managed to keep their cool in the heat of the moment, but the wives later dished on how the comment made them feel:

"I think my jaw dropped," said Christine. "I couldn't believe that was his take and it kind of broke my heart."

I won't go so far as to say Andy's comment broke my heart, but it did make me feel bad for the Browns. I mean, I know I've been critical of Kody, but that's because I'm critical of the idea of plural marriage in the first place. It just doesn't seem fair for fellow polygamists to bash the Browns when they're risking so much to publicly follow the same faith. But then, that's the downfall of every religion: The division that comes with splitting dogmatic hairs.

How would you feel if your husband decided it was time to add another wife?
