Matt Damon & Ben Affleck Totally Rule the Boston Movie Scene

ben affleck and matt damonI will not shy away from admitting that I love any and all Boston-centric movies. I can't get enough of the grittiness! And the accents! And the Afflecks! Let's be real, if Ben's not in the Boston movie du jour, his younger brother Casey is. So imagine my delight when the news was released today that Matt Damon and Ben Affleck are teaming up together to make a movie about the notorious Boston mob boss Whitey Bulger. In a word: YES.

This is gonna be so wicked ah-some and frickin' crazy, kid!

According to Deadline, Ben will direct and produce with Matt, who'll play the lead role as Whitey Bulger. And don't you worry, Casey Affleck's gonna have a part, too. I can just feel the Beantown love from he-ah!

It's the first project that Matt and Ben have worked on together in any significant capacity since they won Academy Awards for Good Will Hunting. I can't believe it's been 14 years since that came out. It's about time they're reunited.

Ben and Matt have said that the subject of matter of Whitey Bulger was too good to pass up. I can see why -- the guy's a fascinating criminal. He was finally caught this year after a 16-year manhunt. He was on the FBI's top 10 most wanted list and now has been charged with a whole bevy of accusations including murder and money laundering. The man is 81 years old now and the movie will supposedly start at the beginning of his life, take us through his days on Alcatraz, show us how he was in charge of the mob for decades, and will end with his capture. This is going to be perfection.

The only way they could ruin this movie is by casting a weak female co-star. Need I remind everyone of the disaster that was Blake Lively in The Town? Her acting left a lot to be desired, and don't get me stah-ted on that awful Boston accent she tried to have ... embarrassing. Hopefully Ben learned his lesson with that one and won't make the same mistake twice. Maybe they'll consider Melissa Leo for the role of Whitey's girlfriend -- she was phenomenal in another classic Boston film, The Fighter.

No word yet on when the movie will hit theaters, but I hope it's not too long from now. I can't wait!

Are you excited to see this movie?
